The Secret Life of Bees
When this story starts out, it is not immediately apparent that it will be one that tells of rites of passage -- for more than just the central protagonist. There is heartbreak, but there is also empowerment. It is a story of the seasons along the journey of life, and it's about going along with or resisting the flow. I enjoyed this as much as 'The Mermaid Chair'.
