The Elephant's Journey

The Elephant's Journey - Jose Saramago This tale, based on a true story, tells of the adventures and misadventures of a wedding gift of an elephant, making its way on foot from Lisbon, Portugal to Vienna, Austria. It made for a unique reading experience, in that there was minimal paragraphing and punctuation -- dialogues and narration run into each other, almost indistinguishable in some places and requiring a re-read for comprehension.

To me, the tone reminded me of 'The Princess Bride' in its cheek and impertinence: in some parts, comical resignation to fate, and in others, in mocking defiance. A quick, fun read.
