This is the sequel to 'Touching Spirit Bear' in which a teenager was 'banished' to Alaska, as part of a Native American tribal practice, to serve out a sentence for beating up a fellow student. While there, he learned about anger management, responsibility, accountability and making restitution. In this book, he has finished serving his sentence and returns to a 'normal' life at school -- but while things may have changed inside for him, the outward situations of bullying, ostracizing, and other negative influences threaten to once again stir up violent reactions. Through his experiences, he learns that gentle bending brings forth long-term beneficial fruits, as opposed to hard retaliatory resistance. This is a good book to read to/with your child, as there are many good lessons contained therein.
