While magical realism abounds in this tale, there is a part of me that believes in the talent and ability of certain individuals in 'prescribing' herbs and spices to cure ailments and to correct the imbalance found in daily living -- as attributed to the central protagonist in this account. I liked that the story drew its roots from myth and superstition, and knitted it into the fabric of modern day, where the reader is presented with the range of flavors between heaven and earth, more than are dreamt of in one's philosophy.
