A Street Cat Named Bob: And How He Saved My Life

A Street Cat Named Bob: And How He Saved My Life - James Bowen This is a true story of how a stray cat found down-on-his-luck James Bowen. It tells of the challenges Bowen has with drug addiction and homelessness, and on top of that, of getting and holding onto a job, and at the same time, earning enough to feed himself and the cat, Bob.

It's not a depressing read, but an honest, no-holds-barred account of trying to keep one's head above the water. Bob is not merely a pet, he is also a friend and a (business) partner.

I give this a 3½ stars, because I found some of what Bowen underwent, and detailed in his book, to be "more of the same." The rating does not reflect on the story line; it was just that after a while, I suppose I felt a little frustrated (and helpless) that Bowen kept being dealt the short end of the stick by people and circumstances.

Nonetheless, it's an inspiring read -- of human determination and perseverance, and there is a sequel: 'The World According to Bob'.
